Twitter Critter Tank

I spend quite a bit of time on Twitter talking about my dog. Yup! I’m one of those people. I can’t help it. I think every cute thing he does is newsworthy. And as a dog-loving Twitter fanatic, my little “Twitter critter” absolutely must have this tank.

Thank you Dog Milk for the post

How to Trim Your Dog’s Claws at Home

Its easy its not that hard! I used to trim my dogs claws at the vet because I was afraid to do it myself! But try doing it after showers when your dogs are wet so you get to see the claws clearly and manage to do it successfully. Try clipping lightly and carefully then with time you’ll do it easily, save some time and money and keep your dogs claws clean.

Things you need: Nail clipper for dogs, styptic powder, dog treats and toys.

1- Use trimmers designed for pets. Ask your veterinarian or a groomer for advice about what types of nail trimmers are best for your dog and how to use them properly.

2 – Make sure the clippers are sharp.

3 – Start at the tip of the nail and snip a little at a time. Look at the cut edge of the nail. When you start to see pale pink tissue near the top of the cut edge, stop. You can use a nail file to smooth the edges further.

4- Avoid cutting into the quick, which contains nerves and blood vessels. It is painful and will bleed easily. On white nails, the quick is the pink section.

5- Be extra careful when cutting dark nails, because the quick is difficult to see.

6- If the tip of the nail begins to bleed, apply pressure using styptic powder or a substitute such as baby powder or cotton.

7- Avoid wiping the blood clot off the tip of the nail once the bleeding has stopped.

8- Remember to trim the dewclaw nail, on the inside of the leg. Since it doesn’t touch the ground, it wears down less rapidly than the others.

9- Trim nails once or twice a month. The quick will lengthen if you don’t trim the nail regularly, and long nails can cause traction problems or become ingrown.

Breed of the Week: Fila Brasillero

The Fila isn’t suited to apartment life, by virtue of its size alone. Like many large dogs, it isn’t particularly energetic but when it needs to exercise, it’ll need an abundance of space to be able to do so effectively.

The dog is ideal for a country home, or a place on a farm. Open spaces will allow a Fila the freedom that it needs to work its rigid muscular frame.

A large home with a closed off yard will suffice, but the owner should be aware that claustrophobic city streets aren’t the natural habitat of this particular breed. They aren’t well adapted to urban life.

Providing the necessary shelter is in place, a Fila will quite happily sleep outdoors.

Life Span: 10 years.

Litter Size: 2 and 5 puppies.

Group: Mastiff

Recognized By: CKC, FCI, NKC, APRI, ACR

Color: Fawn, Black, Brown, Brindle

Hair Length: Short

Size: Extra Large

Shedding: Moderate Shed

Male Height: 27-29.5 inches (65-75 cm.)

Male Weight: 90-100 pounds (40-50 kg.)

Female Height: 24-27.5 inches (60-70 cm.)

Female Weight: 85-90 pounds (37-40 kg.)

Interesting Fact: Ancestors Chihuahua derived from the Middle East

Although the name smells of Latin America, the journal Nature in March 2010 said Chihuahua comes from the Middle East. Paris Hilton’s favorite dog, the dog also another mini, has a gene similar to the gray wolf in the Middle East. The wolf is shrinking gradually after the local community makes it a pet.
